The Frozen Fountain (address: Prinsengracht 645) is an amazing store full of modern design by mainly dutch designers. It's not really a shop to buy a lot (very expensive), but it's really great to have a look around for inspiration. It's almost like a museum.
A neighbourhood where you can find many nice and creative little shops is called 'de negen straatjes' (the nine little streets). They are nine streets situated between the canals, with names such as 'Reestraat', 'Hartenstraat' and 'Wolvenstraat'. There you find some really nice stores, like Exota (clothes), boekiewoekie (really nice screenprinted cards and books) ands some second hand stores.
These are the tips that pop up in my head now. I don't live in Amsterdam myself, so I don't know all the ins and outs. Bloesem has written a great weekend read on her blog about visiting Amsterdam, you can find it here:

Hope you have a great time in Amsterdam, it's a great city, kind of crowded (many tourists) but there's so much to be seen!
